Meet the Team - Brian

23 Jul 2019

Introducing Brian Hegarty, one of our Art Handlers and Art Technicians based in our Dublin office. Brian is from Dublin but lives in Drogheda, County Louth with his wife and two young children. After obtaining a degree in Printmaking from (DIT) College of Marketing & Design Brian worked as a scenic artist for the Abbey Theatre for over seven years as well as working on sets for the Wexford Opera Festival and the Gate Theatre amongst others. His experience in handling artworks started in the Royal Hibernian Academy and later in the Irish Museum of Modern Art and the National Gallery of Ireland. He is a practicing artist and has exhibited both nationally and internationally and has works in private and public collections. His most recent solo exhibition ‘I’ll be your mirror’ was selected for the Ashford Gallery, RHA (2016). He also runs ‘thirtythree-45’ a multi-platform art project that produces experimental music live events and is a cassette music label and radio stream.

At Maurice Ward, Brian works with art handling, installation and transport of all sorts of artworks. His job involves working with curators, registrars, couriers, artists and other technicians. Day to day tasks include packing out crates, condition checking of artworks, identifying, labelling and recording the destination of artworks in our storage facility. And this is just before an eleven o’clock tea break!

Brian’s ability to work and communicate effectively within the team is an asset during any installation. He is a focused technician, ensuring exhibitions and jobs are carried out according to specified briefs and instructions. Brian’s professional attitude and his excellent troubleshooting skills are an essential skill within the art industry. He loves the diversity of the work, and the good humour of his colleagues. Reconnecting with artists and seeing a wide range of contemporary and classic art are other aspects of the job he enjoys.

Away from the day job, Brian can be found creating art, listening to music and djing as well as going to gigs and spending time with friends and family.
