Meet the Team – Margarita
26 Jan 2021
Margarita Vásquez Cárdenas joined Maurice Ward Art Handling in January 2019. Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, she is an interdisciplinary artist & arts manager. Margarita has an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts, Universidad de los Andes, Colombia (2002), an MFA in Painting from Ohio University, USA (2008 – Fulbright Scholarship) and an MA in Cultural Policy & Art Management, UCD, Ireland (2014). Having lived in various locations around the world and working with the non-profit and corporate sectors, her experience within the arts and project management are key assets for engagement with our clients and the care needed for their art collections.
She works closely with our Operations Team and engages with clients, current and prospective, on different levels. Primarily she ensures our offering of specialised art handling services is communicated effectively through our website and social media presence. ‘Our communications should become a reference point for the nuances involved in specialised art handling and transport.’ She also is part of the ICEFAT marketing committee and assists with creating content and disseminating information about this art logistic membership and its art handling agents from around the globe.
For Margarita, the arts are important to individuals on a personal level, but they can also be seen as an investment in the future. Perplexed at times by how some institutions and collectors look at the arts as short-term investments, she is keen for people to understand that an artwork should be seen as a long-term asset and in doing so ensuring its care is handled by the best hands possible throughout its life span.
Finding a work/life balance is key for Margarita. While in Ireland, she has taken up Blues dancing and is part of the organising committee for Downtown Blues, who offer weekly dance classes. Her free time is also spent reading and most importantly engaging her ‘creative muscles’ through painting. You can check out some of her previous work here.
